Important timeline information for ALL grade levels

  • Review your schedule, be sure you are enrolled in challenging courses to support your academic and career goals
  • Be aware of drop/add deadlines regarding clean drops, WP, WF, and F
  • Check deadlines for registration of online courses through BVSD Online
  • Check your access to Infinite Campus​ for grades, schedule, and attendance record
  • Become familiar with BVSD graduation and HEAR college entrance requirements
  • Get involved with extracurricular activities. The counseling office has a current list of all clubs and sports
  • Attend the In-State College Fair at Centaurus (typically in October)
  • Attend the Out-of State College Fair at Monarch (typically in October)
  • Apply your best effort in all classes, each semester grade will be used in your cumulative grade point average (GPA)
  • Tour college campuses while on family vacations - this helps determine what might be a good fit - size, location, weather. . .
  • Explore volunteer opportunities, internships, and the Job Board in counseling - it's never too early to start exploring possible career interests
  • Do the summer work required for next year courses

1st Semester
  • Attend Freshman Seminar - transition activities
  • Freshman Parent Night in October
  • ICAP lessons in classrooms
2nd Semester
  • Check in as needed with your counselor regarding your transition to high school
  • Register for summer school if needed for credit recovery


1st Semester
  • PSAT - if slots available
  • ICAP lessons in classrooms
2nd Semester
  • CTE Tour at Arapahoe Campus - see what programs are available​
  • Register for summer school if needed for credit recovery
1st Semester
  • ICAP lessons in classrooms
  • Take the PSAT - it's an excellent SAT preparation and the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship!
  • Attend College Rep. visits in the PGC - sign up in Naviance
  • Attend college fairs
2nd Semester
  • Review Naviance, be sure your email is updated, start an initial list of "colleges I'm thinking about"
  • Attend the MANDATORY SAT Pre-Registration.
  • Take the SAT at MHS
  • Request applications for US military academies if interested (students interested in applying for an academy appointment must take the ACT or SAT before the end of junior year)
  • Check the Post Grad Center & Naviance for "Enrichment Programs" on college campuses
  • Visit colleges that interest you - if possible, do an official campus visit for prospective students
  • Athletes interested in participating in college, see Ms. Cyr about the NCAA core requirements and application
  • Begin working on your college application essay
  • Complete the Letter of Recommendation questionnaire on Naviance; approach teachers about writing your letters of recommendation
  • End your year with strong grades – the transcript you send with your college applications will be the GPA through your junior year
  • Confirm with your counselor how you plan to meet your College and Career Competency Requirement in Math and English
 Summer before Senior year
  • Register online for additional ACT, SAT, or SAT Subject Tests if needed
September & October
  • Attend Senior Application Night - be sure you understand the college application process at Monarch
  • Update your Naviance account
  • Check application deadlines
  • Request Letters of Rec from teachers and counselor (if required)
  • Review your college essay with your LA teacher
  • Attend College Rep. visits in the PGC - sign up in Naviance
  • Attend college fairs, meet the representatives, get on their mailing list
  • Complete Early Decision/Early Action applications
  • Begin your FAFSA application (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) online
November
  • Finalize your list of colleges - be sure they are in listed in Naviance on the "colleges I'm applying to" page
  • Decide if you will be using Common App or college specific applications - counselors need to be notified so they can complete appropriate forms
  • Communicate early and often to counselor as they may need to complete various forms on your behalf
  • Touch base with teachers and counselor regarding letters of recommendation and deadlines
  • Submit official transcripts request to the registrar
December
  • Finish the semester strong, many schools will request 1st semester grades
  • Complete any outstanding applications and submit by deadlines
January-February
  • Complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you have not already done so
  • Investigate and apply for local and private scholarships
March - April
  • Decision letters and financial aid packages will be arriving  - review with your family
  • Make final decision; notify college and send deposit by due date
May
  • Complete college housing forms
  • Avoid “senioritis,” maintain your grades. Colleges can  & will withdraw admission to students whose grades drop!
  • Rock your AP exams
  • Graduate!
